The internship has taught me a lot, particularly how things do not always occur as you planned and therefore must make adjustments as well as delegating over the consequences of each decision made. I was put in charge of staffing the festival and also collecting information from the stallholders. One challenge I faced with staffing was people changing their mind about what shifts they could or couldn’t do. This left many annoying gaps in the staff rota that had to re-arranged several times. Another challenge I faced was the weather over the event. It rained very heavily on the first and third days of the festival. This made it extremely difficult to keep attendees and staff happy, with attendees wanting refunds due to the fact they were unable to fully enjoy the festival. Overall I loved working at West Dean, and I learnt a lot from both the internship, and the people who work there.

There were some obstacles along the way e.g. we had a technical issue with microphones running out batteries which for future reference will be addressed by ensuring that there are plenty of batteries on-site and are accounted for at all times. One skill that personally feel I have developed over the course of this experience is leadership because I was designated several stewarding volunteers and had to be a good team leader in order to contribute to the success of the festival.
