Oct. 2023Indio, California, United StatesUnder direction, supervises Correctional Deputies and Deputy Sheriffs in guarding, controlling and transporting adult prisoners; performs other related duties as required.The Correctional Sergeant-84 is the first line, supervisory level classification in the Correctional Deputy series. Incumbents are assigned responsibility for supervising and coordinating detention work crew operations, prisoner transportation, business and administrative operations, or overall facility security. The Correctional Sergeant-84 is characterized by having wide latitude for exercising initiative and judgment over operational decisions with a minimal degree of direction from higher levels.• Affect the receipt and release of inmates; may prepare reports concerning the conduct of inmates; address inmate complaints; review and administer inmate discipline; conduct searches of inmates and facilities; may conduct sick calls; administer emergency first aid and refer inmates for proper medical treatment.• Promote positive social development of trust with inmates through discussion, encouragement and supportive counseling; prepare reports and correspondence.• Plan, assign and supervise the work of Correctional Deputies and Deputy Sheriffs providing crisis intervention; participate in the establishment and maintenance of program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.• Prepare correspondence and reports regarding unit work, and make staffing and program recommendations.• Serve as a liaison between department, county, local, and state agencies; assist in the preparation of the preliminary counseling unit budget.• Evaluate the work of staff and prepare written performance evaluations.• Maintain, compile and consolidate narrative and statistical reports; write and review criminal and non-criminal reports; conduct personnel investigations where applicable.• Transport inmates to court, medical facilities or other locations.
