The Correctional Corporal-84 is the advanced journey level classification in the Correctional Deputy series and reports to a Correctional Sergeant or appropriate sworn supervisory level position. Incumbents perform a variety of specialized functions, including additional accountability as it relates to custodial and security duties beyond the level of responsibility generally assigned to incumbents at the journey level. The Correctional Corporal assignments include management of property and/or supply systems, and officer-in-charge or lead duties within a variety of detention environments. The Correctional Corporal-84 in a lead capacity is responsible for directing the work of Deputy Sheriff and Correctional Deputy I/II/II-S staff and is not routinely assigned core supervisory functions or the supervising of employees. Incumbents are assigned to review reports and conduct briefings on a temporary basis for a limited period of time as directed. Correctional Corporals are diverted from their regular line function to perform enhanced duties in support of their shift or facility and when not deployed in this manner, are assigned to line duties, comparable to those given to Correctional Deputies.
