This engagement began as an augmentation to an AWS Proserve team, where we built an MVP for Zurich's Cloud Control Plane (CCP), which covered both AWS and Azure. Beyond the MVP I worked on the creation of multiple new components for the CCP, such as the introduction of Customisations for Control Tower (GitOps style AWS Landing Zone), network automation including self-service automated CIDR allocation, and the creation of Zurich's Image Factory.
Fast forward a couple of years, and we have created a landing zone, capable of supporting a migration effort of ~1000 applications from the multiple business units within Zurich. Situated globally, we have created localisations for North America, EMEA and APAC, and enabled the business units to themselves vend new environments, accounts, workspaces, repositories, baselines and more, all fully compliant and in line with the latest industry and Zurich specific standards and legislations. I like to refer to this one as an accelerator and the time saved for the business by this platform is astronomical. I’ll have dig out the exact values from the deck that was presented at Hashicorp’s Hashidays conference in London.
The platform uses Azure Devops, Terraform Cloud, Account factory for Terraform (AWS), a plethora of supporting scripts and pipelines, many GitOps style config repositories and even more Zurich compliant modules for both AWS and Azure workloads.

Feb. 2019 - May. 2023Flutter Greenfield Data Platform (Lead Engineer)
I joined the gaming giant on a Greenfield project to set up a brand-new data platform in AWS. I worked alongside the head of platform, solution architects and data engineers, for the initial creation of the platform and its standards / processes. The platform was built with scale, efficiency, and security in mind, expecting to accommodate 10’s to 100’s of accounts in the near to medium term, all of which needed to be built to a high standard due to the highly regulated industry it operated in, and the shear amount of data that would be processed by it. The book did not stop at technology, as ways of working were created and adhered to team wide, and in sticking true to Agile principles, were frequently iterated on to improve both platform and processes alike. NHS e-RS migration (Platform Engineer)
Augmented a very capable team, headed up by BJSS, to migrate the critical e-RS application from privately hosted infrastructure, into Amazon Web Services. This role included, but was not limited to, recreating the original infrastructure as code, refactoring aspects for better support in AWS, leveraging Cloud Native services where appropriate, and frequent client engagement in the form of meetings, demos and workshops. Post migration I was also involved heavily in the e- RS paperless initiatives, which took full advantage of native AWS services, and other cloud hosted NHS applications (such as NHS Login), to further improve the application UX.
