Mineral SchoolFounding Director
Jan. 2015Mineral, WA and Seattle, WASince launching the Mineral School residency program in 2015, I have managed the residency and culinary program every year as well as those programs’ seasonal staffing, and resident logistics -- I did this as board president and we disbanded the board and renamed the role in 2019. I manage organization finances, partnerships, in-residency and non-residency events, community relations, volunteer weekends, the facility, most grants, most social media and paid marketing, and most communications to alumni, donors, and media. Since launch the program budget has grown from $0 to $75,000, annual applicant count has more than tripled from 72 to 250+, we've hosted 140+ artists and more than 83 public events near Mt. Rainier and in Seattle, and all of this has been achieved with no paid staff -- although we've begun contracting some labor. I've written successful grants to Amazon Literary Partners, the Sustainable Arts Foundation, and ArtsFund/Paul Allen Foundation, secured Humanities Washington speaker support, and led efforts to collaborate with other arts organizations including Centralia College, Fire Mountain Arts Council, Hugo House, Lewis County Dignity Guild, The Mineral Lake Lions Club, The Rainier Independent Film Festival, and Seattle Escribe.

Independent writing and editing professional -- print and onlineJane Hodges
Aug. 2004Greater Seattle AreaI'm an award-winning journalist who covers business -- real estate, entrepreneurship/small business, personal finance, marketing -- and occasional lifestyle topics (travel, food). Work has appeared in national papers (WSJ, NYT), magazines (AARP, Success, Money, Real Estate Forum), Web sites (CBS's BNET, MSNBC.com, Earnest, Entrepreneur.com, Guidevine, Millie), and in local venues (Seattle Times, Seattle Magazine, Seattle Weekly, Publicola). I excel at explaining complex business scenarios and concepts for lay readers as well as sophisticated audiences. I also write outside the business beat: I published an astrology gift book series with Chronicle Books/Rhino Records (Cosmic Grooves, 2001), wrote a monthly astrology column for Southwest's Spirit (2006-8), and have published fiction (Brooklyn Review) and essay (Seal Press, Recessionwire.com). I will take on corporate clients (custom publishing, annual reports) that don't conflict with my journalistic areas of expertise.
