Laboratory Intern
University of California, San DiegoLaboratory Intern
Mar. 2015 - Mar. 2016Dr. Leslie J. Carver's LabDr. Carver's lab largely works with infants and children testing a variety of studies. During my time at the UCSD Developmental Neuroscience lab I served as an aid to a UCSD graduate student working on her dissertation research. The first study tested whether imitation is social by analyzing the effect of affect on imitation. The second study looked at the emergence and performance of prosocial behaviors and whether Autism Spectrum Disorder had any effect on their prosocial ability. Generally within the lab I was responsible for scheduling participants for studies, picking up parents with their children and bringing them up to our lab, going over consent forms, working on coding assignments for other studies, facilitating ERP studies, and learning the basic principles of lab etiquette. We also met weekly as a lab with Dr. Carver herself to learn about the importance of all of our processes, the details of the lab equipment, how to code data on Matlab, and other specifics within the lab like the risks associated with conducting experiments with human subjects. As an intern at Dr. Carver's lab I was able to register for HDP 199 and HDP 193, which allowed me to be compensated for my time in lab with class credit.
