MicrosoftSearch Consultant
Apr. 2007 - Apr. 2012• Responsible for functional definition, architecture design, implementation and deployment of search projects. My role involved the end to end adoption of the search technology, from product inception, based on the evaluation of customer’s inventory and data, define functional specifications, actual product development and deployment, as well as supporting setting up operational processes and metrics around search products, such as:
o Local internet search portals, like Emol.com in Chile and Globo.com in Brazil, with a focus to deliver relevant content to generate traffic across verticals, and revenue based mostly in traffic and advertising.
o Comparison Shopping products, such as IG Shopping and Uol Shopping, with revenue based mostly in click-through contracts with online shops, so that the search experience needs to balance relevance with yield rates for the portal to perform successfully.
o Classifieds products, such as Venezuela´s caveguias or Brazil´s Ibiubi, with query processing to increase precision on controlled vocabulary and content processing to gather unstructured data. The Ibiubi project had a plan to deliver the publisher´s own classifieds content alongside with its competitors content in a non-biased way, facing strong opposition internally. One year after launch the site established a meaningful market share and healthy revenue streams based on advertising, opposed to paying classifieds customers.
o Information organization projects with customers (Globo.com and Valor Econômico), where text analytics entity extraction from content supports user supervised ontologies, that are in turn leveraged to improve content delivery mechanisms like topic pages and recommendations. The ontology powered topic pages in globo.com resulted in a roughly three times increase in the time-on-site metric in test cases.
• Experience in projects across Latam in Brazil, Chile, Venezuela and Mexico.
