Aug. 2018 - Sep. 2020Oklahoma City, OklahomaI worked with a team to architect and develop a green field software project for the Federal Aviation Administration. I was responsible for interpreting functional requirements to create a fully realized hardware and software system capable of satisfying those requirements. We designed the system using a systems engineering process and met on a weekly basis with representatives from the FAA program management office to validate the system design. As the program transitioned from design to development, I lead a software development team of between 4 and 8 people. Eventually I promoted my most senior developer to the lead position and I transitioned to the product team to resume my role as an architect.

During my time at CareEvolution, my role has evolved from solely a software engineer to being primarily product- and customer-centric. I regularly met with client team leads and project managers to direct custom work that is needed to enable their organizations to meet business objectives. Often, this also involves working with other vendors' technical teams and communicating the status of work to all interested parties. I worked with a team of engineers at CareEvolution to develop many of the integrations that were discussed during those meetings. My development tasks have included writing parsing and validation frameworks for clinical data interchange documents, leveraging Microsoft Windows Communication Framework for transmitting XML-SOAP messages, and tuning custom matching algorithms to customer needs.

Oct. 2013 - Mar. 2015Oklahoma City, Oklahoma AreaDuring my time at INTEGRIS I wore many hats as a developer, architect, and manager. My first major responsibility was to manage a data ingestion platform called Amalga. This included writing custom parsers for clinical data as well as writing queries to retrieve the data from the data warehouse. In addition to the parsers, I also helped create the first gold standard Amalga cluster for testing and replicating virtual infrastructure for expanding the production systems. I then left for a year to work on a different project, when I returned to INTEGRIS, I worked with an Architect to begin the implementation of a new provider portal using ASP.NET with Telerik web components. As the provider portal grew, we added two developers to the team. The responsibility to mentor and lead the team was shared between myself and the other Architect. After my work on the provider portal I was promoted to Architect and given a project to implement the DIRECT secure email platform which would be integrated with the provider portal. Once that project was completed, I began a work on an Enterprise Service Bus and document storage pipeline. I was allowed to find and hire a junior programmer to work with me, and we worked together to establish goals for his growth as a developer.

In my time there, I refactored the database to establish better normalization patterns and user tracking functionality. After the database was fixed, I worked to maintain the custom PHP framework as well as add features requested by the product owners. I also used a logging platform that fed data to an Amazon RedShift Business Intelligence database in order to create custom reports that could be sent website management tools and viewed by the owners and investors. I established a Continuous Integration workflow and implemented Continuous Deployment using the deployment workflow that was already in place.

Jan. 2012 - Jun. 2012At OPUBCO, I worked on Wimgo, an events and business directory developed as an extension to the Oklahoman news offerings. Early in my employment, I helped develop new features for the website such as Facebook login and full-text search using Sphinx and, later, FAST. As my role grew, I established a new MVC framework pattern and worked with a team to transition the old site to the new framework while constantly maintaining all existing functionality over more than six months. We eventually abandoned Sphinx and FAST for a different search engine based on Apache Solr. I was instrumental in the transition to the new search platform as I was the developer on the team with the most experience in search. While that project was underway, I had daily interaction with business leaders and outside contractors in order to align our business goals and development needs. After the Wimgo project ended, myself with a team of one other programmer and a designer, developed a website to leverage the data and knowledge that we had from Wimgo. Unfortunately, that website was not adopted by OPUBCO as a product to continue investment in.
