Institute of Ecotechnics - RV HeraclitusMarine Scientist
Jan. 2003 - Jan. 2005Since it was designed and built in 1975 by the Institute of Ecotechnics, the crew of the Heraclitus has studied oceans, coral reefs, rivers, lakes, estuaries, and explored the origins and futures of human cultures. In its longest voyage to date, Heraclitus crossed the Pacific to North America in four and a half months. Sailing from Guam to Seattle and finally San Francisco, it docked in Oakland, the place it had been built 28 years before. It docked near Jack London Square, where a quarter century of exploration was celebrated. The ship then voyaged to Los Angeles and Ensenada, Mexico, where another voyage was launched across the South Pacific, performing coral reef studies from the Marquesas to the Coral Sea countries, including a major stop at Rarotonga, Cook Islands.
