Aug. 2011 - Aug. 2012Herat, AfghanistanProvided hands-on technical direction for a livelihoods program running 4 centers in 3 of the poorest districts of Herat, with a total of 1,380 women working in the informal economy and street-working children and youth to learn literacy, numeracy, life-skills, entrepreneurship and business skills within three years. Build the capacity of the staff running the education centers, developing their business and entrepreneurship know-how as well as their ability to teach illiterate beneficiaries. Designed a two-part market survey to understand the market in Herat and how beneficiaries can access the local market as workers or micro business owners. Developed business and entrepreneurship curriculum currently taught to women and youth beneficiaries. Designed a working business plan each beneficiary completes in order to apply for a small grant to support one entrepreneurial venture per family, as well as designed the monitoring and evaluation tools utilized by the project to understand the impact of the program.
