Guest Music Curator - Durchlüften Festival
Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner SchlossGuest Music Curator - Durchlüften Festival
Mar. 2020Berlin, GermanyA Personal Note: As a Mexican-American curator based in Germany, I am deeply committed to creating inclusive cultural spaces that amplify marginalized voices. Since 2021, Durchlüften has been a celebration of musical discovery, uniting sounds and stories from both local and global stages. My goal is to build a space where artists and guests connect meaningfully, contributing their unique stories to the festival’s communal experience. At the heart of Durchlüften is accessibility, with culture offered freely and openly to all. In these uncertain times, I believe that listening and sharing space is the first step toward collective healing and imagining the world we want to create together. It is an honor to curate this year’s program, bringing together a diverse lineup of extraordinary storytellers across twelve summer evenings filled with music, connection, dancing, and joy. Join us in planting new seeds of connection and celebration. I can’t wait to share this special journey with you! — Melissa Perales, Curator of Durchlüften

Mar. 2020Berlin“For me, curating this stage is an opportunity to create a space where all the stories of the invited artists* can be re-centered. Told from the source, a journey between past, present and future. So new narratives can flourish in their place, written or recorded by those who experience or have experienced them and offer new approaches. This stage will continue to provide a platform for underrepresented stories and bridge the gap to many other issues that concern us and play a major role in our everyday lives, leading us to understand and look at each other from a different perspective. I look forward to welcoming all audiences, especially people like me who couldn't always afford a ticket to a concert, or a museum. It's a lifelong dream of mine to create a framework where culture is accessible to all and not held hostage by consumerism or academic barriers. I'm thrilled that this year's stage is free to all who want to participate and listen.“

Torstrassen FestivalCo-Founder, Festival Co- Curator & Organizer
Sep. 2010 - Sep. 2022Berlin und Umgebung, DeutschlandI was a co-founder and curator of Torstrassen Festival, a music matinee festival we launched in Berlin-Mitte in 2010. Torstrassen Festival was a celebration of community, diversity, and discovery through music. With a cross-genre lineup that blended local and international talent, we created a space for both seasoned and emerging artists, encouraging exploration beyond big headliners. The festival connected with the heart of Berlin-Mitte by promoting both new and longstanding neighborhood venues, often spotlighting unexpected spaces that allowed music to shine in new ways. We strived to keep ticket prices affordable, ensuring that music lovers, neighbors, and newcomers could easily discover something new. At its core, Torstrassen Festival was a forum for the dynamic evolution of Berlin’s music scenes, offering a platform for gender equality, diversity, and inclusivity in our lineups. And, as always, we invited our neighbors to join in and contribute their own energy to the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.

M:SoundtrackMusic Program Curation + Concert & Event Booking + Promotion & Film Curation
Oct. 2004Berlin und Umgebung, DeutschlandM:Soundtrack was founded by Melissa Perales in 2004 at Schokoladen Mitte, born from a deep love of music and a desire to create a platform where international and local talent share one stage. Each event is curated as an experience—a unique soundtrack for both artists and audiences. Rooted in Berlin’s independent scene, M:Soundtrack has always championed emerging voices, offering space for experimentation and growth beyond commercial pressures. It has long prioritized diversity—well before it became a buzzword—and continues to support artists who often struggle to access early-stage opportunities. Its true power lies in building community and nurturing talent. As a curator and promoter, Melissa sees it as her mission to spot and support emerging artists, helping them grow toward larger stages while also engaging in broader conversations around gender equity and decolonizing the music scene.
