iOS Developer
HealthJoyiOS Developer
Dec. 2022 - Nov. 2024Chicago, Illinois, United StatesAs an iOS Engineer on HealthJoy’s Marketplace team, we were tasked with integrating various third-party vendor solutions to enhance the member experience within the app. My responsibility was to integrate partner SDKs and APIs into our iOS application, ensure the timely and stable release of new functionality, and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver a seamless, high-impact user experience. I implemented and maintained integrations with vendor frameworks and APIs, aligning them with our app architecture and user experience standards. I collaborated closely with backend engineers to define API requirements and ensure data flow supported custom frontend experiences. To streamline development and release cycles, I adopted CI/CD best practices and wrote comprehensive unit tests, enabling automated distribution to testers and the App Store. I partnered with the Product Team to refine features, visual design, and user interactions, and guided the implementation of analytics for accurate measurement of product initiatives. Additionally, I acted as the main mobile point of contact for partners and vendors, setting up regular syncs to coordinate implementation, share feedback, and resolve technical issues. These efforts led to the successful launch of multiple vendor-integrated features that enhanced user engagement and value delivery within the app. Our streamlined release process reduced turnaround time for new features. Most notably, my initiative to proactively collaborate with partners and vendors led to a reduction in partner-based SDK crashes by over 80%, significantly improving app reliability and user satisfaction.

Eight Bit StudiosiOS Developer
Aug. 2016 - Mar. 2022Chicago, ILAs a Senior iOS Engineer at Eight Bit Studios, I delivered high-quality mobile applications for a wide range of clients across industries including Logistics, Healthcare, Fitness, Education, Enterprise, B2B, and B2C—each with unique technical and user experience needs. I developed and maintained iOS applications—both independently and within teams—ensuring they met functional, visual, and technical requirements for App Store release. This involved close collaboration with Design for polished UI/UX, coordination with Project Management to meet timelines, and direct communication with clients to align on goals and deliver solutions. Over six years, I designed and built more than 10 iPhone apps using Objective-C and Swift in Xcode. Many included advanced UI elements such as custom navigation, animations, and seamless transitions. I integrated technologies like JSON/APIs, MapKit, Socket.IO, Core Data, Social Framework, and CoreAudio. I also took initiative to improve the build and deployment pipeline by implementing Fastlane, which reduced distribution times, enhanced visibility into build status, and was adopted as the standard across all Eight Bit projects. These efforts led to the successful launch of multiple App Store apps, several recognized for performance, polish, and user experience. My ability to coordinate with local and distributed teams improved development velocity and consistency, while my Fastlane implementation significantly streamlined internal, client-facing, and App Store distribution workflows.

Dose (Formerly Spartz)iOS Developer
Nov. 2013 - Jun. 2016Chicago, ILAt Dose, I served as an iOS Developer responsible for building innovative applications for iPhone and iPad, including games, content-driven apps, and social experiences. My role required not only delivering high-quality mobile applications, but also closely collaborating with cross-functional teams—including Product, Design, Project Management, Backend Developers, and Data Scientists—to ensure cohesive user experiences and technically sound solutions, all while staying ahead of rapidly evolving iOS technologies. To achieve this, I regularly researched and integrated third-party APIs, libraries, and SDKs, while also experimenting with new iOS features and tools in Xcode. I played a key role in transitioning our codebase from Objective-C to Swift to take advantage of Swift’s improved safety, readability, and modern syntax, which made the code easier to maintain and less prone to bugs. Additionally, I actively contributed to team knowledge sharing by proposing modern approaches and technical solutions throughout the discovery, design, development, and deployment stages of both mobile and web projects. As a result, I enhanced the team’s efficiency and helped deliver more innovative and scalable applications, while continuing to grow my own technical expertise in alignment with Dose’s emphasis on professional development.

Chicago Career TechProgram Participant
Jun. 2012 - Nov. 2012Chicago, ILI was selected to participate in an accelerated 6-month iOS Development course offered in conjunction with Skills for Chicagoland’s Future (formerly Chicago Career Tech) and Tribeca Flashpoint Academy, designed to fast-track mobile development skills for career transitioners. As part of the program, I was assigned a hands-on learning project at WTTW Channel 11, where I was responsible for developing a real-world iOS application. I conceived the idea for an app titled “Chicago’s Loop: A New Walking Tour with Geoffrey Baer,” which offered users an interactive walking tour experience through downtown Chicago. I collaborated closely with a designer and my instructor to refine the user experience and ensure a polished final product. I led the development effort from concept to deployment, ultimately publishing the app to the App Store as part of the program’s capstone project. Throughout the process, I consistently demonstrated leadership, technical expertise, and a collaborative approach that earned the respect of both my peers and instructors. I was recognized as the Outstanding Participant for the entire program, and the app I developed for WTTW received over 500 downloads within its first month. Remarkably, despite being launched over a decade ago, WTTW continues to offer a version of the app on the App Store today. This experience not only highlights my ability to deliver polished, impactful mobile solutions under tight deadlines, but also underscores my capacity to quickly adapt to and learn new technologies in a real-world setting.
