Aug. 1995 - May. 2015Mobile, AlabamaTaught a cumulative 2000+ students biology courses, laboratories, and field experiences ranging across the biology curriculum at a residential, public, competitive entry high school with a college teaching standard. My students were broadly diverse from various cultures and backgrounds. Courses included honors biology, cell biology, AP biology, AP environmental science, zoology (invertebrate and vertebrate), botany, ornithology, genetics (Mendelian and molecular), ecology, evolution, conservation biology, directed research, and special projects. Taught summer science courses in week-long programs of field biology to campers 13-16. Mentored students in independent research. Wrote grants to gain resources to support student enrichment. Mentored students in extracurricular academic competitions. Planned, budgeted, and lead extensive field trips including annual week long excursions of biological exploration in the US and internationally. Took the initiative to perform the majority of departmental administrative duties. Supervised up to 15 work service students in maintaining biology labs. Personally constructed needed equipment and made minor repairs. Served several years as Biology Departmental Representative to the school president. Served one year as chair of the school president's Departmental Advisory Committee. In charge of data gathering and analysis resulting in successful completion of the school's strategic plan.
