University of the Free StateLecturer / Reseracher
Jan. 2014Bloemfontein Area, South AfricaLecturer / Researcher in Academic Literacy - subject coordinator for the Humanities.
In addition to teaching English academic literacy to first year students, I coordinate the facilitators who help teach on the course. I also present workshops on student engagement as part of staff improvement programmes at the University of the Free State.
My current research is on academic writing; the interventions that can be used to transform a curriculum so that students can best acquire this important skillset. 2018 will also see the launch of my project entitled the Initiative for Creative African Narratives (i-CAN), which aims to decolonise the academic literacy for Humanities course by introducing local texts produced by our own students. For this project I have been fortunate enough to obtain funding from the Andrew W Mellon Foundation.
