Develops a strong funding base for the Initiative, in cooperation with the President and business development team. Coordinates Social Entrepreneurship for Democratic Governance and Peace initiative to expand the training and coaching program to more local NGOs and to incorporate market-based approaches to all new Centers. Serves as the Regional Program Director for LAC programs, including the current USAID-funded Closing Political Space civil society program in Honduras, Nicaragua and Ecuador. Interfaces with sub-regional PartnersGlobal Network members in the region and lead the new business development and outreach efforts to secure programs in the region. .

This initiative included a cause-related diplomacy portfolio. I oversaw a team responsible for the design and implementation of: the US-Middle East Partnership for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research, and the US-Saudi Women’s Forum on Social Entrepreneurship, as well as a regional conference focused on new technologies for civic activism in the Middle East for US DOS/MEPI. These initiatives included the creation of innovative bilingual project websites using Web 2.0 technologies and various social networking tools targeting marginalized youth populations. The programs incorporated targeted marketing, grant programs, webinars and other stakeholder meetings to raise awareness of project topics on the international level. I collaborated with partners to ensure design and delivery of culturally appropriate training materials and delivery in Arabic and English. I also provided ongoing support to partner organizations and the Department of State by arranging workshops, conferences, training sessions and public meetings on women’s empowerment, education and health topics. My strategic communications team managed all logistical, scheduling, reporting and marketing elements of large multi-lateral conferences held in foreign countries. We regularly hosted and facilitated multi-stakeholder virtual meetings, planning sessions and review committees in addition to responding to frequent hi-profile, fast turn-around tasks assigned by the client related to events undertaken in partner countries conjunction with the White House and other offices of the Administration.

I built the country portfolio which began modestly as a modest $500K pilot program to $10 million country program with diverse funders. I lead the implementation and monitoring of long-term strategic planing including: staff management of 40 personnel; trainer pool of 50 and social partnership initiative with government stakeholders. Under my leadership we expanded the program to a fully operational and localized country program of five satellite telecenters servicing all regions of the country with on-demand electronic resources and training. I provided financial management and trained local staff to carry-on with program management after my tenure. Skills tranfer included: budget development and compliance with governing contracts and agreements; ensuring security of office funds and cash distributions; and implementation of proper internal controls. Our sub projects included : Water User’s Association, Maternal and Child Health Initiative, UNHCR Working Group on Refugee Resettlement Repatriation and Return; UNICEF Water and Sanitation Project. This work was undertaken in a complex political context during a time in which foreigners were considered suspect and the local dictatorial leader was cracking down on NGOs.
