I served as an automatic rifleman and field tested the Corps' new M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle. My squad conducted over 170 patrols in Helmand Province. We engaged the local population with dialog and provided assistance to them wherever possible. We provided security for village elders, helped bring medical aid to the local community, passed out school supplies to the children, and successfully denied the Taliban a safe haven to move drugs and weapons.
