o Develop communications plans to promote the scientific, policy and fieldwork of Conservation International (CI) around the world. o Develop overarching stories from CI’s multidisciplinary work to advance its mission of protecting nature for human well-being. o Plan and lead targeted communications projects using CI’s communications channels (i.e. blog, social media, website and internal newsletter)
o Work with communications team to develop and implement institutional communications efforts around major events and campaigns (i.e. Climate COPs, Nature Is Speaking film series)
o Draft pertinent communications materials including media releases, institutional statements, FAQs, fact sheets and social media content
• Proactive media relations
o Conduct outreach to journalists and bloggers to pitch CI stories
o Work to identify and build media partnerships with influential media outlets
o Develop relationships with influential journalists covering CI’s key areas of work
o Identify trends in the news cycle and opportunities for CI to showcase its technical expertise
• Tactical media response
o Respond and prioritize opportunistic media inquiries and facilitate interviews, information requests and content requests
o Work with the media team to identify, manage and lead crisis communications responses
• Manage Media Relations Coordinator
o Oversee drafting of communications materials
o Guide media outreach and pitching
o Assign projects including management and development of media lists, creation of media impact reports and development and procurement of media assets (i.e. photographs and video)
o Manage day to day activities of media relations coordinator
