Teaching Assistant for Engineering Strategies & Practice (ESP) Course
University of TorontoTeaching Assistant for Engineering Strategies & Practice (ESP) Course
Sep. 2013 - Dec. 2014Responsible for running tutorials, marking assignments and helping students with team projects. The theme of Engineering Strategies & Practice (ESP) is to highlight the role of engineering in our society, our relationship with the environment, and the potential and importance our work holds for people. This innovative course is designed to foster excitement for engineering through projects that combined creativity and logical methodology. Effective use of written, oral, and professional communication is developed throughout the semester.

Jan. 2013 - Dec. 2014Design and micro-fabrication of multi-degree freedom Lead-free thin-film piezoelectric actuators with applications to optical devices. The main goal of the research was to design and mircofabricate a piezoelectric MEMS actuator with applications to auto-focus and optical image stabilization for hand-held devices. One of the main contributions of this work was focusing on a Lead-free piezoelectric material called KNN. KNN has been getting a lot of attention in the last couple of decades due to its comparable piezoelectric properties to the commercially available PZT material. Microfabrication of single phase thin-film KNN is very challenging due to volatility of the alkaline elements. A significant portion of my research work was dedicated to developing a recipe for depositing thin films of KNN and characterizing the films in terms of microstructure and electrical/ferroelectric/piezoelectric properties. Fabrication and analyses of prototypes using the following equipment/techniques: Deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) RF/DC magnetron sputtering Mask aligner Wet etching Photolithography Plasma asher Profilometer X-ray diffraction Scanning electron microscope Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy Atomic/piezoelectric force microscopy Parametric analyzer Network analyzer Softwares used for design and simulation: COMSOL MultiPhysics Radiant Zemax L-Edit
Product Engineering Assistant
Ballard Power SystemsProduct Engineering Assistant
Sep. 2011 - Dec. 2011Vancouver, Canada AreaDesigned and built an apparatus to simulate fuel cell modules in cold environments in order to evaluate the performance of different Hydrogen sensors. Tested and evaluated different types of filters used to immune Hydrogen sensors to Siloxane contamination.

Jan. 2011 - Apr. 2011Vancouver, Canada AreaContinuation of previous research. The research team successfully invented and developed a mechanism for decreasing rotational acceleration of headgears during oblique impacts to reduce traumatic brain injuries resulted from accidents. Responsibilities and contributions included: Initial design of a test-bed based on ECE standards by SolidWorks. Creating a comprehensive test manual for conducting tests based on ECE standards. Rapid prototyping of different designs and evaluating them by conducting drop tests. LABVIEW programming for data acquisitioning. Extensive market research, patent search. Training new researchers and creating video tutorials for future researchers. Preparing the initial patent for the invention. Sensor calibration, test-bed maintenance and high-speed video recording for data capturing. Data analysis for bi-weekly team meetings.
