Data Scientist
SpaceCurveData Scientist
Oct. 2012 - Jan. 2015Seattle, WAAs a Data Scientist, I built applications and use-case scenarios for this exciting new geo-spatial database platform. Spacecurve has interests spanning Geospatial/Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Mobile and Web advertising, as well as scientific applications in the life sciences, environmental, and world modeling. I also applied this database technology to applications in Life Sciences, creating a single storage and processing instance of the 1000 genome project dataset.

Nov. 2011 - May. 2020Greater Seattle AreaProviding consulting services in Data Science, Machine Learning, and Bioinformatics: Building a Pathogen Detection Platform probe design system. (ArcanaBio, Reykjavik, Iceland) 2018-2020 Probe Design System for Enterobacteria Clonotype Detection (ID Genomics, Seattle) 2016-2019 Helped develop first commercially available Zika Virus Assay with Genarraytion (Rockville, MD) 2016
Invention Development Manager
Intellectual VenturesInvention Development Manager
Oct. 2011 - Oct. 2012Bellevue, WAI was an Invention Development Manager at Intellectual Ventures who recruited and managed a U.S. network of inventors that generate Intellectual Property in the Mobile, Cloud and Big Data Computing space. The Invention Development Fund (IDF) is the third in a series of Intellectual Venture Funds. IDF is focused on Software, Physical Chemistry and the Life Sciences. I reviewed 40-50 invention disclosures in this space each month for his fund.
Senior Software Engineer
MicrosoftSenior Software Engineer
Dec. 2010 - Oct. 2011Redmond, WAMicrosoft Research Project within the Amalga Life Sciences Group doing bioinformatics solution prototyping for the Pharos Bioinformatics platform [C#/.NET]. I built an application framework that could be used to analyze bacterial pan-genomes. This was used to investigate the new 'German' E. coli strain O104:H4.
Director of Bioinformatics
CustomArray, Inc.Director of Bioinformatics
Jul. 2010 - Nov. 2010Bothel, WashingtonI was part of the start-up team: I did business development, marketing, as well as working directly with researchers to design microarrays for them. I also wrote and received funding for two phase I SBIR grants: 1. Field-deployable Arbovirus detection system (funded 2010). 2. A Padlock-probe based miRNA detection system (funded 2011). Wrote a novel padlock-probe design application for this grant.
Senior Research Scientist / Bioinformatics
Combimatrix CorporationSenior Research Scientist / Bioinformatics
May. 2000 - May. 2010Mukilteo, WABuilt and managed Combimatrix’s Design-on-Demand Service. This service was responsible for all custom microarray design projects. This work involved consultation with each customer at the experimental design phase. Specified all methods and coded software library that performed microarray probe design for these design projects. Nearly 90% of all microarray sales went through my department for custom design work. By identifying needs within the microarray market, and through various key collaborations, I developed five product lines: Gene expression profiling, chIP-on-Chip, Comparative Genomic Hybridization (CGH), SNP/resequencing, and Pathogen Genotyping. My group delivered 500 custom designs to our customers, representing over $4 M in sales. Designed and developed the first commercially available Influenza A typing microarray. This chip can accurately type all known subtypes of influenza A. Developed enrichment probe design system and assay for Next Gen Sequencing.
Post-Doc
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research CenterPost-Doc
Aug. 1998 - May. 2000Investigated the heat-shock mediated transcriptional regulation of MICA and B, two novel MHC-class I related antigens, expressed in gut epithelium. Mapped MICA promoter by bioinformatic analysis, In vivo genomic footprinting (IVGF), Electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA), Nuclear RunOn assay, DNAseI protection assay using nuclear extract, primer extension, and RNAse protetction.
