Smart DCCChief Enterprise Architect / Executive Advisor
Apr. 2017 - Apr. 2018London, Reading, United KingdomTechnology and Architecture leadership for the UK Smart Metering Initiative in coordination with the various Service Providers: CGI, Telefonica, Arqiva & British Telecom • Defined a Release Management Strategy based on Cloud Deployment that allows multiple releases per year, freeing the DCC from lock-in to a contrary and less Agile strategy. • Steered the DCC to adopt a "Secure Cloud First" strategy that will reduce costs, increase agility and decrease tight coupling to Service Provider hardware infrastructure constraints while ensuring that the tight security architecture remains unchanged. The project is currently underway. • Created the concept of Home Area Network (HAN) Software Emulation to enable testing future releases from energy supplier to virtual homes on the Cloud, and providing scale-up possibilities to exercise the full target of 53 million smart meter endpoints by the year 2020. • Audited the solution's Payment functions and performed a Failure Mode & Effects Analysis on the Pre-Payment feature introduced in the February 2017 Release, identifying areas of vulnerability that, if not addressed, could translate into serious SmartDCC liabilities. • Audited the DCC’s Architecture Principles and provided feedback for a complete rewrite to make these more effective and enforceable.
Chief Enterprise Architect / Technical Lead
UK Ministry of DefenceChief Enterprise Architect / Technical Lead
Jan. 2016 - Mar. 2017RPP Project - Reading, United KingdomArchitecture Lead on a programme managed by Capita UK to develop recruiting portals for the Army, Navy and RAF for both candidates and recruiters. - In a first phase, introduced the concept of a Developer's Blueprint, a graphical design artifact intended to make it easier to communicate requirements to developers while guaranteeing completeness of coverage, and developed a supporting Blueprint complexity score to assist in planning and management. The methodology quickly became an enabler for the program's develop-right-first-time initiative (IEEE publication in process). - Created and headed the Architecture and Design Group to support the development of Blueprints and grew the team to include upward of 60 architects, systems analysts, user interface and user experience designers, for the production of Blueprints along several parallel streams in what became an aggressive Agile Design approach targeting the completion of Development within 12 months. Introduced Blueprint quality standards and mentored the team for consistency of deliverables. - In a second phase, adopted an overarching technical leadership & technical management role for the program with responsibility of the end-to-end architecture. Introduced a methodology that allowed the identification of orphaned forms and processes, with the aim of ensuring that the application's workflows work seamlessly when complete.

Enterprise Data & Integration Architect: Strategy & Governance
LafargeHolcimEnterprise Data & Integration Architect: Strategy & Governance
May. 2013 - Dec. 2015Paris Area & Lyon FranceLeadership and active participation in the development of IT Governance and Strategy in the EAI domain (Integration & Data), and in the launch of a formal EA discipline at Lafarge. Optimized available technical/technology integration alternatives by validating and promoting loose-coupling best practices: • Reinforced Architectural Governance through the introduction of Architecture Principles, an Architecture Pattern Library (logical to physical datacenter deployment) that rationalizes choices and promotes reuse together with a Logical Architecture phase to follow Business Requirements gathering in the project control process. • In coordination with the group IT infrastructure teams, defined the role of emerging IaaS, PaaS and iPaaS (Integration Platform as a Service) opportunities, as well as architectures to enable efficient inter-datacenter exchanges and service exposure. • Launched and managed technology adoption POCs/projects, and in particular validated a loosely coupled integration architecture involving the company's ERP systems (JD Edwards and SAP via SAP/PI) that promised significant performance improvement and a resulting reduction in infrastructure costs. Extended the concept to asynchronous message exchanges between the company data centers and external logistics software providers (via ActiveMQ/AMQP). • Provided technical guidance to all integration projects and mentoring to business analysts and solution architects introducing and enforcing effective best practices to improve performance. • Rationalized the Data Architecture strategy through proper Governance of Canonical Data Models spanning all integration flows and the company's Master Data Management initiative.
