Adjunct Faculty- Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) Program
The American College of Financial ServicesAdjunct Faculty- Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) Program
Oct. 2024Nashville, Tennessee, United StatesOnline instructor teaching two of three courses needed for the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) designation: Charitable Giving Strategies and Gift Planning in a Nonprofit Context. First course section starts in April 2025. GS 849: Charitable Giving Strategies GS 849 focuses on explaining and placing the most common charitable strategies—both one by one and within an overall plan—to achieve donor goals for self, family, and community. By the end of this course, you will be able to: • Explain the features and benefits of each individual charitable tool. • Compare and contrast the tools in the light of a donor or client’s overall legacy plan for self, family, and society. • Identify reasons advisors and fundraisers often collide, and the ways we may work more effectively together. GS 859: Gift Planning in a Nonprofit Context GS 859 focuses on what nonprofits call “gift planning.” The course is designed to help board leaders, advisors, and nonprofits collaborate to create, count, and steward significant gifts. By the end of this course, you will be able to: • Identify the roles of the three sectors, how those roles are changing, and how the nonprofit sector is funded. • Discuss the role of the nonprofit board and how fundraising is structured and managed. • Discuss how planned, major, and blended gifts are raised, invested and stewarded. • Discuss the rise of “the social economy” and impact investing. • Discuss what high capacity donors want. • See how “personalized” or “donor-focused planning” complements the value-based planning that is taught in the other CAP® courses. • Discuss the ethics and ideals of gift planning as an emerging profession

Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP Global)Podcast Co-Host
Jul. 2024Nashville, TennesseeThe AFP Emerging Leaders Committee has been talking about how a podcast would be a great free resource for emerging leaders (defined as those who have been in the profession ten years or less). We know early career professionals can’t always afford to attend large conferences like AFP LEAD or ICON, so the more cost-effective learning opportunities we can provide, the better, especially if that opportunity is a quick 15-20 minutes you could easily fit into your busy schedule like on the way to a donor meeting. We will release a new episode on the third Thursday of every month.
MAP Fellow
Morgridge Family FoundationMAP Fellow
Oct. 2021 - Mar. 2022Nashville, Tennessee, United StatesThe Morgridge Acceleration Program (MAP) Fellowship matches nonprofit executives, called MAP Mentors, with emerging leaders, called MAP Fellows, looking to create a positive impact while developing professional skill sets and networks. Through the program, MAP Fellows collaborate with peers and industry leaders to challenge the status quo, foster new and meaningful connections, and spark the sustainable change needed to achieve a profound and lasting impact. While driving impact for nonprofit organizations, MAP Fellows gain elite mentorship, executive coaching, networking opportunities, travel, and access into a tight-knit group of peers. This year, Forbes called the MAP Fellowship “a powerful opportunity for collaboration and innovative thinking.” Design a fundraising strategy for Colorado State University (CSU) Spur, opening in Denver this January, that builds on existing work with their campuses, creates clear processes and policies, and identifies potential funding sources for their various public-facing outreach and educational programs. The fundraising plan will create long-term strategies and structure, will help align development efforts across all three CSU campuses (CSU, CSU Pueblo, and CSU Global) to maximize efficiency, will put transparent policies and procedures in place, and will leverage this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to engage with donors for the Spur campus. Funding will ultimately support programs designed to engage young people in topics and careers in STEM and the arts, and inspire Spur visitors to apply their talents to global challenges in food, water, health, and sustainability.

ENP (Empowering Neighborhood Partnerships)Executive Director
Apr. 2021Nashville, Tennessee, United StatesThe mission of ENP is to work for justice and equality with our neighbors through building relationships, community action, service, and empowerment. ENP's motto is 'Neighbors doing what Neighbors do,' helping each other to strengthen our community. We seek innovative approaches to education, community co-ops, and affordable housing to build a more vital community in which to live, work and play. To that end, ENP manages three programs: (1) The Spot, an after-school program for 5th - 12th-grade students, supporting them to become their best selves; (2) the FreeStore, a community cooperative where neighbors share a meal and "shop" for household, personal, and cleaning items not eligible for Food Stamps; (3) ENP engages in community action by supporting resident tenants to self-advocate for affordable housing and as a lead member of the Edgehill Coalition, addressing development, gentrification, transportation, and safety issues. ENP is also the sub-zone captain of MDHA's Nashville Promise Zone project. Three principles guide ENP: (1) As a neighbor, ENP seeks to address the concerns identified by community stakeholders: residents in public housing, in single-family homes, and the business community. (2) ENP partners with others already engaged in effective programs. Current partners include West End United Methodist Church, Belmont United Methodist Church, Open Table, the Nashville Food Project, Oasis Center, NOAH, Belmont University, and Vanderbilt University. (3) ENP is volunteer-driven: this is how we build relationships, understand needs and work to improve our community.
