Unix Systems Engineer (Permanent Position)
Co-operative Insurance SocietyUnix Systems Engineer (Permanent Position)
Feb. 1992 - Feb. 1994Manchester, United KingdomSystems Support Analyst, employed to integrate the IBM RS6000 Unix based system into the C.I.S's token ring OS/2 and mainframe environment. The purpose of which was to allow Dealers access to the Stock Exchange TAURUS project which was to revolutionise the stock market. I succeeded in allowing any of the CIS's 2000 PC's access via TCPIP into the RS6000 whilst still allowing them access to the mainframe via 3270 for windows and also allowing them access to an OS/2 LAN SERVER to use Dos and windows based applications, shared data and shared printers. The whole network was bridged over approximately 30 Lans. The software for the RS6000 was a client/server application which required Windows and Novells LAN workplace for windows to provide the TCPIP communications stack. This was quite an achievement to get working in an OS/2 Lan Server/Manager environment. The software itself allowed the RS6000 to use its resources for keeping upto date records of CIS's many stock dealings whilst limiting the PC's to screen handling.
