Non-executive Chairman
BCD Resources NLNon-executive Chairman
Oct. 2010 - Aug. 2011Tasmania, AustraliaFollowing the provision of a loan from Minemakers to BCD Resources I was nominated as a director of BCD. My nomination was later ratified by a general meeting of the company held in February 2011. Subsequent to the general meeting the then Chairman resigned and I was elected to the role by the other members of the board. During my tenure as Chairman I was successful in implementing monthly board meetings at site that encouraged the interaction between the board and operational management during a period of significant change in the business. Under my leadership the site management were empowered to develop, implement and monitor operational plans.
General Manager - Projects Development
Minemakers LimitedGeneral Manager - Projects Development
Aug. 2008 - Apr. 2015Perth, AustraliaReporting to the Managing Director I have been responsible for managing the feasibility studies and regulatory approvals required to progress the Wonarah Phosphate Project. I have also had significant involvement in the Company’s investment in the emerging IHP technology for producing phosphoric acid. I managed the feasibility study and approvals process for a DSO operation at Wonarah, which was completed in June 2010. In 2013, the NTEPA approved an enhanced project using IHP without the need to submit a new EIS, an acknowledgement of the thoroughness of the original EIS. I successfully negotiated a Mining Agreement for the Wonarah Project with CLC and Traditional Owners of the Wonarah site, with assistance from legal counsel. In August 2010 Minemakers made an investment in a technology company called JDCPhosphate (JDCP), which has developed a revolutionary means of producing super phosphoric acid (SPA), using a rotary kiln. The patented process is called the Improved Hard Process (IHP) and JDCP have constructed a 1/18th scale demonstration plant in Florida. The plant, in its original configuration, encountered some issues with dust impeding successful operation. However, JDCP have now developed a revised process flow sheet, which laboratory data indicates will address the dusting issue. The plant will require some additional equipment and modification and JDCP is in the process of raising additional capital to fund these changes. I have been the principal technical contact between Minemakers and JDCP during the past four years. Due to delays in validating JDC's IHP technology, Minemakers started seeking other acquisition or investment options. As a consequence, much of my time during the past twelve months, has been taken up with due diligence (DD) on various opportunities. The DD has ranged from desktop studies using public information, more detailed studies conducted under confidentiality agreements as well as some on-site DD.
Vice President, Head of Operations, Australia
Gold Fields LtdVice President, Head of Operations, Australia
Jul. 2006 - Jul. 2008Perth, AustraliaReporting to the Executive Vice President – International Operations in Johannesburg, I had complete operational control for the company’s two Australian sites; the St Ives and Agnew Gold Mines. As such I was responsible for strategy and operational management to deliver on production, cost and margin goals. This was achieved with close cooperation between the small Perth Office team and the on-site management teams. The St Ives operation produced approximately 470,000 ounces per annum by processing 7.4Mt of ore (4.7Mt through the Lefroy Mill and 2.7Mt via Heap Leach) and generated revenues of approximately A$450M in 2008. The operation employed approximately 600 people including Business Partners and had an operating budget of around A$270M and capital expenditures of about A$100M including A$25M of exploration expenditure. The Agnew Gold Mine produced approximately 210,000 ounces per annum by processing 1.3Mt of ore through the mill and was expected to generate revenues of the order of A$190M in 2008. The operation employed approximately 300 people including Business Partners and had an operating budget of around A$90M and capital expenditures of about A$40M including A$18M of exploration expenditure. I maintained close interaction with the Australasian exploration division and the Australian Corporate Development Manager; who operated from the Perth office, to ensure opportunities to optimise the business were explored.
General Manager - Operations & Projects
Jubilee MinesGeneral Manager - Operations & Projects
Jul. 2000 - Jun. 2006I was recruited to Jubilee to act as the Resident Mine Manager of the Cosmos Nickel Project, a position that I filled until February 2003 when I was transferred to Perth office as General Manger Operations and Projects. In this role I continued oversight of the operations at Cosmos, and also participated in the assessment of other projects and acquisition opportunities and managed the development of projects already on the company’s books. With the discovery of the Prospero and Tapinos deposits in 2004 and 2005 respectively, the need to permit and commence development of these orebodies became critical to the future of the company and I was assigned to the role of General Manger Technical Services to focus on their development. In this role I enabled the company to achieve commencement of development of the Prospero/Tapinos project within 12 months of discovery of the Prospero orebody.
