Cornell UniversityGraduate Teaching Assistant
Aug. 2017 - Dec. 2017Under Instructor Tim Clark Hufaker and as a member of a comprehensive educational team, I ran two class sections of Cell and Developmental Biology. I created lesson plans to follow and improve the class syllabus, answered questions on material, graded homework and tests, held instructor hours, and overall supervised student learning for 40 undergraduates at the introductory level in an intensive recitation and lab session.
Founder
Take a Politician to Work DayFounder
Oct. 2016 - Dec. 2018I developed and enacted an innovative, student-led political-scientific outreach program, Take a Politician To Work Day, which brings elected representatives and senior government officials to campuses to visit labs that are studying topics aligned with their policy interests, led by graduate student and post doctoral researchers. It also lets graduate students and post doctoral researchers communicate directly with their representatives through round table discussion panels. This program has brought in local to federal representatives to a dozen campuses nationally with each visit tailored to the interests of the visitor. This program has engaged me directly with politicians and their staff, the graduate student body, and the broad scientific community at various campuses through correspondence with multiple offices, departments, laboratories, and individuals to coordinate this programming from parking arrangements, to lab tours and activities, media coverage, and discussion moderation.

Cornell UniversityGraduate Teaching Assistant
Jan. 2014 - May. 2014With instructor Nozomi Nishimura, I helped engage students in quantitative methods for biomedical analysis in BME 7310, Advanced Biomedical Engineering Analysis of Biological Systems. I held regular instructor hours, developed problem sets, coordinated design project preparation, graded and reviewed assignments to increase student performance

Cardiovascular Developmental Bioengineering LabGraduate Research Scientist and PhD Candidate
Oct. 2013 - Nov. 2019Cornell UniversityMy research uses cutting edge biotechnology and an interdisciplinary approach to understand the mechanical regulation of mitral valve interstitial cells and how this relates to pathogenesis. I develop and apply innovative in vitro cell culture systems and biomolecular processes to develop biologically based regenerative strategies to diagnose and prevent valve disease.
Undergraduate Teaching Assistant
Stony Brook UniversityUndergraduate Teaching Assistant
Aug. 2011 - May. 2012I aided faculty in teaching and evaluating students in Biomedical Engineering (BME) BME 404-Tissue Engineering, BME 212-Research Fundamentals in Biomedical Engineering, and BME 100-Introduction to Biomedical Engineering through the creation of problem sets, quiz, and exam questions. I aided in the grading and review of assignments and prepared and monitored laboratory segments. I held biweekly review sessions for the BME 404 class and provided comprehensive exam review sessions to increase student performance.
Design Engineer
Musculoskeletal LabDesign Engineer
Aug. 2011 - May. 2012Stony Brook, NYWorking in conjunction with Dr. Clinton Rubin’s Musculo-Skeletal Research Laboratory and the Center for Biotechnology at Stony Brook University, I worked with a small group to incorporate low intensity high frequency mechanical signals into a novel wound dressing that applies and modulates vibratory stimulus to facilitate healing of chronic wounds. Novel patient data sources, such as thermal sensing, were incorporated into the dressing to provide superior physician oversight and patient compliance.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Wound Healing LaboratoryUndergraduate Research Assistant
Apr. 2011 - May. 2012Working under Dr. Richard Clark and Dr. Miriam Rafailovich, I characterized the anisotropy of healing dermal tissue in burn wounds at a near cellular level using Atomic Force Microscopy and microrheometry. Understanding the mechanical patterning that underlies wound healing establishes a regenerative platform that can be exploited to enhance and expedite burn and blast wound recovery. This research was performed as a consortium member in the Armed Forced Institute of Regenerative Medicine
