The magazine recently got a new website and as such it is part of my duty to see to it that the new website is up to date and that all of the articles that appeared on the previous website is transferred onto the new version. Nov. 2014 - Oct. 2015PotchefstroomMy duties entailed that I sub-edit every article that a journalist wrote before the newspaper was laid out and printed. I had two text-editors that had to report back to me and I had to see to it that their work was satisfactory. Due to the newspaper’s publishing schedule I had to work every other weekend. My routine mainly encompassed that I work alone, thus I sometimes worked through the night until early morning to ensure that all the work that I had to do, was done correctly. As such it was my duty to inform the journalists of any mistakes that they had made in their writings. I used to compile Word documents that listed each individual journalist’s mistakes, as well as the corrections thereof. It was also left up to me to print one copy the entire newspaper for further editing purposes before the final product was sent to the printers. On this first copy my two text-editors and I read the entire newspaper from back to front and highlighted every spelling and grammar mistake that we had missed during the prior stages of editing. I would then go back and correct the mistakes on the InDesign-documents upon which the newspaper is laid out. Only then was the newspaper ready to be printed and published.
