MicromineInterim General Manager
Jan. 1996 - Dec. 1998Micromine develops and markets software for mineral exploration and geographical Information Systems (GIS). I was responsible for all day-to-day management of the company, with particular attention to marketing, sales and software development. The objectives of this contract were, primarily, to transform it from product- to marketing-lead. Also, to introduce more formal processes and structures to the programming and other business units. These objectives were achieved and, additionally, I widened the company’s product range (to reduce its exposure as a single-product company) through acquisition and joint ventures, and similarly its distribution network. This necessitated drafting and negotiating agreements and instructing legal counsel. I also had a major role in successfully conducting a breach-of-contract injunction and negotiation of the subsequent damages settlement.
