IcelandairGround Safety Officer and Compliance Specialist
Oct. 2019 - Sep. 2022As a ground safety office and compliance specialist, I was responsible for ensuring that ground handling operations at our main hub in Keflavík and international stations were in compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. My work was to identify potential hazards and risks associated with ground handling operations and develop strategies to mitigate those risks and improve overall safety. Their responsibilities included conducting internal audits of ground handling operations, maintaining and updating manuals and procedures, and investigating incidents and accidents to identify the root causes and prevent future occurrences. I also ensure that all employees were trained in safety procedures and protocols, conducted training sessions and provide guidance and support to employees as needed. I was a liaison between internal and external customers, providing information and communication regarding safety and quality issues. The role also involves organizing third-party consultation meetings, conducting process improvement projects, and managing key performance indicators (KPIs) related to ground handling. In addition to safety, compliance was just one key aspect of my role. As a compliance specialist, I had to ensure that all operations were in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. I worked closely with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders to ensure that all requirements were met and maintained documentation and records to demonstrate compliance. Overall, a ground safety office and compliance specialist is critical to ensuring safe and efficient operation. It requires strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as a thorough understanding of safety and compliance requirements.
