Aug. 2023Iráklion, Crete, GreeceWorking for the PERCEIVE Horizon Europe EU project whose ambition is to reshape the way that colored artworks (ancient buildings, statues and more contemporary textiles and paintings) are studied, their appearance is reproduced and exhibited, thus effectively preserving them for future generations to enjoy. Main duties include: - Developing AI tools to colorize black and white photographs of old paintings. - Replicating the material appearance of ancient statues by using 3D-printed replicas. - Administration tasks, deliverables, overlooking work packages - Developing tools in Python for Light Damage Estimation of colored artworks over time. - Developing code in Python for displaying Analytical Data on 2D and 3D digital doubles of artefacts.

Jun. 2023 - Feb. 2024Augsburg, Bavaria, GermanyDeveloping cutting-edge Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence and optical 3D reconstruction algorithms as part of a team of coders and developers. With my assistance Scoobe3D managed to produce the first professional grade (dimensional accuracy < 0.1mm), handheld, fully cloud connected 3D scanner, which took the complication out of the process of acquiring 3D models with metrological-grade accuracy . No hardware or special knowledge was required to operate the device.

Mar. 2019 - Jun. 2020Stuttgart Area, GermanyLeading research and development of non-contact optical metrology for Shining 3D in Europe on the topics of Artificial Intelligence, Augmented and Virtual Reality and investigating the use of upcoming new technologies to tackle the most challenging 3D scanning tasks. Particularly active in the areas of dental and cultural heritage digitization applications.
Research Fellow
University of NottinghamResearch Fellow
Mar. 2015 - Mar. 2019Nottingham, United KingdomThe focus of my current research is to develop the next generation of 3D optical inspection equipment for the Additive Manufacturing (AM) industry. The focus of the group is to employ the principle of Information Rich Metrology (IRM) so that a priori information of the manufactured part and the functional model of the measurement instrument can be effectively leveraged in order to break the physical performance barriers of traditional diffraction-limited optical metrology. Our research group aims to develop the concepts and tools which will eventually enable the wider 3D printing and precision manufacturing industry to quality control their processes to a tighter specification both during the in-situ as well as in the post-processing stages of the production process.

Jan. 2011 - Jan. 2014Droitwich Spa, United KingdomLead R&D and product design for the new optical range of industrial-grade thin-film thickness gauges for SENCON Ltd in partnership with City University London. The results I achieved as leader of this collaboration are: - Solely implemented the optical subsystem and the measurement software algorithms whilst managing a team of software developers/technicians and mechanical engineers to realize product milestones and satisfy company goals. - Tachnically overcame the ascension of a competitor in the market with a 2-year head start. - Developed and carried out training framework for company personnel to manufacture and service new kit. - Created test-bench apparatus to conduct simple pass/fail manufacturing tests.
