Jul. 2019Cape TownWhen I left Absa bank I was hired as the visual designer for a luxury safari company website where I was responsible for designing the website's user interface. The website's purpose was to perform well in search engines while also having a high emphasis on conversion optimization and visual appeal for an affluent international market. Shortly after the luxury safari project, I was contracted by a food delivery company as a UX Design Lead and UI Design contributor to their Visual Design System. I was involved with several projects in various levels where I was responsible for the full design process from research to ideation, design, user testing and handing over designs to development teams. Projects ranged from assisting in designing a Progressive Web Application (PWA), an Android tablet app, web-based applications and introducing a major feature in their Android mobile application. Working with business owners, product owners and multiple stakeholders I had to make sure that design solutions answered the business problems and was communicated often to facilitate collaboration across business functions.

My main responsibility was to ensure the highest quality visual output of the projects as I collaborated with UX Design teams, business teams and engineering teams. I contributed to the universal design system and was responsible for the UI Design Style Guides on the projects I worked on directly. At times I was responsible for doing user research and running user tests to ensure we’re building the right solutions. Absa’s design leadership placed a lot of emphasis on Design Thinking and provided thorough training in this problem-solving design methodology. I also contributed to the graduate internship program by creating the UI Design syllabus and mentoring interns on product design.
