My professional journey has taken me through four distinct fields. First graduating and working as an engineer, later as a commodities analyst in the FMCG sector. I worked in various leadership roles for one of South Africa’s largest investment firms for 16 years, before ultimately establishing an investment management company rooted in the principles and applications of machine learning and AI. While my technical expertise has helped me throughout my journey, ultimately, my problem-solving approach brought me into the investment management profession, where I have contributed to many roles. First as a quantitative analyst and later leading teams as CIO & CEO within the Samlam Group. I have also participated in, or reported to, several boards, both in South Africa, the UK, Ireland and Nigeria. I have a strong foundation and understanding in the practical applications of time series analysis and the challenges in money management which has been developed via studies, as well as my experience in the asset management sector. Thanks to my experience working in various disciplines within the Investment management industry and the exposure of working with smart young minds, first in teams and later in various leadership positions, has given me invaluable exposure to big data and working with data-driven teams, within a financial framework. While I enjoy reading and immersing myself in ideas and topics I don’t yet understand, I firmly believe that it is always people that make the difference. I have been fortunate to be mentored by good mentors and have had the privilege to pass that on. I am a family man, happily married for 29-years and have two amazing young adult children. In my spare time I try my hand at agriculture while improving my proficiency in speaking “Geek”.
