PraktiPartnerships & Strategy
Sep. 2019 - Jan. 2023ThailandI volunteer my time and skills to further Prakti's impactful mission in the world. Prakti Design develop, manufacture, and distribute efficient and clean cooking stoves for the base of the pyramid Traditional biomass cookstoves, used by half the world’s population, are a major global health, economic, and environmental issue. Because of smoky stoves, millions of Women and children inhale the equivalent of 20 cigarettes per day. In many regions of the world, the cost of fuel is a major economic burden for poor people. Finally, inefficient use of biomass as fuel for cooking is major contributor to deforestation and to global warming. Over three years of consulting for improved cookstove programs, Mouhsine witnessed the need for the integration of cookstove design, manufacturing, and distribution. Mouhsine envisioned a social enterprise that would bring together best-in-class engineering, production technology, and distribution in order to create the first sustainable and scalable stove dissemination. Five years ago, he founded Prakti, a social enterprise with operations in India, Nepal, and Haiti. Today, there are 250,000 people in the world from clean-burning, fuel-efficient cookstoves made by Prakti. Prakti received several awards, including fellowship at Unreasonable Institute and Unreasonable at Sea, wining the IDEAS2012-DFID prize for “Innovation in Design and Distribution’, Siegal+Gale prize for “Innovation and Impact”. Prakti also won the international ‘Convergence2015’ prize for public-private partnership to meet the millennium poverty challenge. Finally, Prakti won a prize at the “Global Social Venture Challenge”, and a nomination at the “Clinton Global Initiative”.
