Mar. 2019Kauno, LithuaniaA university spin-off company Keli therapeutics develops tissue-engineered products for cartilage and inflammatory kidney indications. We have successfully carried out a preclinical rat acute kidney injury in vivo study with allogeneic perinatal stem cells, and have initiated a preclinical study (ex vivo and in vivo) to test perinatal stem cells for the treatment of chronic, recurrent, and debilitating autoinflammatory skin condition. We are translating scientific research to clinical application through GMP processes. A company is determined to translate ATMPs to the clinical stage.

Aug. 2015Kaunas, Kauno, LithuaniaAfter the implementation of the kidney injury model, I have transitioned to articular cartilage repair models. This coincided with my residency studies at the Orthopedic and traumatology department and my Ph.D. studies. We have successfully implemented articular cartilage local (chondral defect) and diffuse (osteoarthritis) models. In a multidisciplinary work, we collaborated with researchers from the Laser Research center at Vilnius university and created a custom designed hybrid organic-inorganic scaffold and compared it to a positive control of collagen scaffold seeded with cells in two preclinical studies. We have shown that both scaffolds are safe and effective and are able to regenerate cartilage. The custom-designed scaffold still needs optimization to improve cell proliferation and hyaline cartilage-specific protein expression and secretion.

Aug. 2012 - Aug. 2014Kaunas, Kauno, LithuaniaLithuanian University of Health Sciences, Medical Academy, Physiology and Pharmacology Institute, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Advanced Cell Therapy GMP Center My early publications, abstracts and posters evaluated skeletal muscle stem cell applications in kidney injury models. We implemented acute kidney injury model and tested the in vivo efficacy of characterized muscle derived stem cells (MDSCs). The technology for cell isolation was acquired at the University of Pittsburgh during internships. We have demonstrated, that MDSCs are safe and effective in vivo preclinical rat model based on clinical outcome, serum and urine analysis, histological kidney parameters.
