Jan. 2024California, United States · RemoteI started working with GenIq as part of my role in GMST. We were the engineering team for Geniq as at the time they did not have their own resources. When GenIq's previous CTO left in late 2020, I was asked to take over the role. In January 2024 the entire GMST team started working for GenIq directly. Core Responsibilities
• Determine technical direction for GenIq.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance for the engineering team.
• Communicate effectively and work with business operations to determine priorities and set goals.
• Work with vendors to manage contracts and priorities.

• Took several ASP.Net Webforms applications and turned them into SaaS products which were delivered to GenIq's clients.
• Expanded the engineering team so that we had team members located in a number of U.S. states as well as Ireland and Spain.
• Developed an automated deployment process where changes are automatically deployed and tested in all of our environments Dev/Test, Sandbox, Production.
• Developed a Secure SDLC with a focus on education and automated security testing (SAST, DAST, MPT).
• Migrated to using BICEP IaC for all of our Azure infrastructure setup and configuration needs.
• We are nearing the end of a HiTrust certification process. This has involved a lot of work defining GenIq's policies, procedures, and standards, and from there implementing the required initiatives to be HiTrust ready.
• We have also been working on a ground up rebuild of some of the original modules to meet the needs of modern users. This project is currently on time for completion in October 2024.
• Encouraged the adoption of AI tooling to help the development process.
GMST (Ireland) LimitedChief Technology Officer
Nov. 2015 - Dec. 2023Dublin · RemoteGMST was founded in 2015 by a large U.S. healthcare provider, primarily as an R&D house and center of technical excellence. I was hired as the CTO and first employee of GMST with a remit to build out a team in Dublin. I grew GMST from just me to a cross-functional team of thirteen people. I acted as the operational leader for GMST under the direction of the Board of Directors. Core Responsibilities
• Lead all day-to-day operations for the company.
• Set technical direction for GMST and work with our partner companies to do the same.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance for the team.
• Hire, retain, and grow a top class engineering team. Some Key Achievements
• Grew the team from just myself to thirteen in total. Full stack engineers and QA Engineers. • Developed several engineers into team leads and one of those into an engineering manager.
• Transitioned from hybrid to fully remote work relatively seamlessly when COVID hit. That allowed us to expand with some team members based outside of Dublin. We remained fully remote and closed our physical office shortly after.
• Worked with our U.S. based partners to deliver projects where additional resources or technical expertise were required. These projects that we delivered helped those partners to deliver new products or to make meaningful improvements to their own processes.
• Defined a great team culture where engineers are engaged, happy, and productive. We have only had four people leave the company over the last nine years. Three of those left to pursue work outside of Ireland.

Dec. 2013 - Oct. 2015IrelandAction Point is a software development company which delivers high quality bespoke custom solutions for clients in a wide range of industries. I was initially hired as a developer but had the great opportunity to grow my role and responsibilities as the team grew. As Action Point are a bespoke development house we would typically have several projects in progress at any given time, ranging in effort from a few days to multiple person-years. These projects could be in a variety of different technologies but it was roughly 80% .Net web application development, 15% native mobile development (Objective-c and Java), and 5% other languages and systems e.g. Ruby on Rails, Sharepoint, PHP. Each of these projects would typically be in a different industry with wildly varying requirements. It was my responsibility to ensure that every project across all technologies was delivered on time and on budget to the highest possible standard. Core Responsibilities
• Provide leadership, mentoring, and line management for the team of eighteen software engineers,
quality assurance engineers, project managers, and business analysts. These teams were located
across our Limerick and Dublin offices.
• Manage the on time delivery of all software projects from a business, process, and technical
perspective.
• Ensure the the engineering team was continuously operating and evolving • best practices.
• Establish technical guidance and directions for all aspects of the agile SDLC: requirements,
design, development, QA, deployment, and maintenance.
• Efficiently manage annual department budgets.
• Provide technical and architecture leadership for all projects and teams.
