The T3 initiative is a joint effort of the academic and business communities for the purpose of collaborating on solutions around the following key challenges in the technology sector of Middle Tennessee: • Student Interest (enrollment in technology curriculum is down) • Business Need (demand for technology resources are at an all-time high) • Academia/Business Alignment (graduate skills and need are not aligned) Our community has/is changing and the Human Capital that is needed to power our community has changed. We are no longer a manufacturing/banking/healthcare community only. Over the past 10 years technology jobs and demand for those skills have become a VERY big piece of our economy and it has gone somewhat unnoticed. Overall, we need more people interested in technology jobs, more students that understand the potential for great careers in technology jobs, and better curriculum in our schools that match the growing need of technology positions in Middle Tennessee. Probably the most telling statistic is that Georgia Tech alone graduates more Computer Science majors every year than all 16 or our universities and colleges combined. The average starting salary for an entry level person in the technology industry is around $40K to $45K, the average salary in Nashville is around $55K. Middle Tennessee needs those type jobs. The domino effect that it can cause is far reaching for our economy.
