KaplanVice President, User Experience
Mar. 2014 - Jun. 2015Miami/Fort Lauderdale AreaFollowing a restructuring within the organization, I was afforded an opportunity to work alongside other talented technology professionals within a newly created innovation team. Our focus was to partner with business, product and academic leaders throughout the company to help build MVP candidates for new products, service enhancements, or new lines of revenue. I managed a User Experience and Research team, comprised of a Sr. UX Researcher, UX Researcher, Information Architect & Data Scientist and two stellar Full Stack Front End Developers. We worked on design, research, testing and proof of concept ideation for several new deployments of Kaplan's learning product delivery platform, known as KAPx. We also partnered with business units in the optimization of existing business platforms in the B2B space and developed a mobile-optimized design for e-Commerce ordering. Our methods included developing paper prototypes, conversion into either HTML prototypes or click through graphic prototypes using tools including InVision, Balsamiq, Axure and development tools. Research platforms used included Loop11 for unmoderated testing and Morae for our in-house usability lab. My contributions included meeting initially with stakeholders throughout the business to develop an understanding of their needs and what the target outcomes were. I also ran several design studio sessions to help with ideation, participated with my colleagues on design and prototype build and mentored, challenged and developed the team members. This position was performed remotely from La Crosse, WI and I reported directly to a business unit CEO, then the CTO and the CIO of the company during this time frame.
