Apr. 2013 - May. 2013IndiaMutli-fold project with Saphara (a Non-Government Charity Organisation based in Northern Ireland). Aim 1-Auroville Eco Femme Project: Insight and information sharing of Eco Femme's reusable cloth pads. Eco Femme work with local village action groups to provide a rural social enterprise that empowers marginalised Indian women and girls. It is in the early stages of developing a Sexual Health Programme for women and girls. Aim 2-Dehradun 3 week Research Project at SNEHA school for urbanised slum children on Adolescent Sexual Health Needs. Survey developed by Eco Femme, amended by myself based on preliminary focus groups and a pilot questionnaire cohort of 10 women/girls, conducted by SNEHA team and myself with analysis carried out by myself. Sub-cohort of Adolescent girls only (30 students) to be incorporated into analysis prior to final analysis and write up. 77 women and girls in total were individually interviewed for this Research Project. An Adolescent Health Programme is to be developed with collaboration between the SNEHA team and myself based on the findings of this Research Project. Aim 3-Mussoorie Evaluation of an existing 3 year Adolescent Health Programme carried out by myself for feedback to Saphara (the Funding Body for MGVS-an NGO based in the rural foothills of the Himalayas). Evaluation showed a strong positive indicator for change e.g. one 18 year old girl who was recently married was permitted to return to school to complete her A-Level equivalent examinations, despite a 3 hour walk to school in one direction and despite being recently married. A fantastic outcome. To fund these projects, I trekked to Everest Base Camp in March 2013. Sponsorship was split between Saphara, Make-a-Wish Foundation and the K.M. Bahauddin Memorial Learning Centre (a family run project which provides education to underprivileged children in Fort Kochi slum colony).
