Directed the startup of an independent, autonomous London-based enterprise to develop capabilities to market power, gas and other energy commodities in the deregulating European market. Managed six direct reports and all business operations including strategic planning, P&L, sales, marketing, staffing and administration. • Realized a Q1/02 operating profit in excess of $40 million in less than one full year of operation. Transitioned business from concept through start-up to a full-scale, profitable operation with 90 employees and positioned it as a top-tier competitor in the European marketplace. • Developed business plan, selected site, built organizational structure, recruited/hired staff and set up business processes and functions (e.g., legal, accounting, risk control, trading, organization, market research, HR, finance, credit, IT). • Structured transactions for the sale of complex energy management arrangements and the trading of natural gas, electricity, coal, and crude/refined products – included storage projects in Spain, the UK and Belgium, tolling arrangements and generation management proposals, and utility asset divestitures in Italy, the UK, Spain, Germany and Eastern Europe.
