What came back rewrote how Intch runs engineering.

Alexander Rogovsky, Intch’s CTO and co-founder, just wrote about the moment AI changed how he manages his engineering team. It didn’t start with a tool. It started with a confession.

“Most managers think the job is assigning work and making sure it happens. I thought that too, for years. Then AI came and took that part off my plate, and it turned out it was never the part that mattered.”

He wrote this after his first interview with Epic Growth, where explaining Intch’s setup out loud made something click. The piece is worth reading in full — but here are the three things that stuck with me.

The feedback session nobody teaches you

Alexander did something most founders avoid: he took his team’s honest feedback, dropped it into an AI, and asked what he was missing.

No politics. No ego protection. Just a pattern-matching engine with zero reason to soften anything.

Most of the patterns pointed at him.

This isn’t a story about AI replacing managers. It’s about using AI as the mirror that colleagues are too polite to be.

Faster handoffs broke something human

Here’s the part I didn’t expect.

When product people started arriving with ready Markdown files and pre-written prompts — handing developers work they could pass straight to an AI agent — the developers pushed back. Not because the process was worse. Because it was too efficient.

They wanted to know why something mattered before they got the perfect instructions for how.

The team didn’t ask for less AI. They asked for more context. More humanity alongside the automation. That tension — speed vs. meaning — is something every team running AI tools will hit eventually. We wrote about a version of it in Your Team’s AI Problem Isn’t AI.

The math that makes it personal

A Microsoft study of 31,000 workers found people spend 57% of their time communicating — meetings, email, chat — and only 43% creating anything. Managers average around 13 hours a week in meetings alone, according to HBR data cited in Flowtrace’s 2025 report.

Alexander’s fix: screenshots of the project board, fed to an AI, reconstruct the week in about a minute. Release notes write and post themselves into Slack. What used to eat a manager’s evening now takes sixty seconds.

But the freed-up time doesn’t go to more process. It goes into conversations no agent can have for you.

“For years I thought managing meant standing in the middle and moving things along. AI quietly took that away. And the middle was never where the value lived.”

Intch runs a lean, bootstrapped team serving 700K+ users across 140 countries. Every hour AI saves goes into a person instead of a process. Alexander is already working on part two: how to tell if your team is actually getting better with AI, or just hiding behind it.

Looking for part-time talent that works this way? Try Intch →

Alexander Rogovsky handed his team’s honest feedback to an AI.
